Episode 14: Ellen Blum Barish-Skokie's Award Winning Writer

In this episode, we sit down with Ellen Blum Barish. Ellen is a writer, editor and author. Ellen won the 2018 Individual Artistic Excellence Award from the Skokie Arts Commission. She also heads two literary publications. They include Thread, which contains original, long-form essays, and Stitch, a monthly publication featuring 100-word essays.

She is an award winning writer, editor and author of Views from the Home Office Window: On Motherhood, Family and Life, published by Adams Street Publishing in 2007 which is available on Amazon.

Ellen’s feature articles on a variety of human-interest topics have been published in Newsweek, The Chicago Tribune and Northwestern Magazine. Her essays have appeared in The Chicago Tribune, Tablet, Brevity, Literary Mama, Full Grown People and have aired on Chicago Public Radio/WBEZ.

Ellen teaches writing at Northwestern University, StoryStudio Chicago, Ice House Gallery and privately in her Skokie home. She also works individually with writers on their memoirs, essay collections and personal essays for academic applications.

Ellen has just completed a memoir and is searching for the right publisher.
